About Paul's PCsWho am I? I am a computer technician who lives in Fleetwood, Lancashire What is Paul's PCs?
Paul's PCs is a relatively new company, it started with a bright idea. Five years ago (in 2001) I became ill with colitis, since then I've had three operations (plus two for kidney stones) and I was not really fit for full time work, so during my time between operations and in recovery I fixed computers for friends and discovered I could earn money doing something I enjoyed. I thought about starting my own business from home, that way I could work at my own pace and be my own boss. So I set off inquiring about the cost, requirements and information on setting up a business. I registered with two company's one called Shaw trust who help people get back to work after unemployment or sickness. They put me in touch with another company called Inbiz who help people who have been sick turn hobbies into full time businesses so they helped me create my own business plan and started me off on a 6 month test trading program (Which ended in Jan 2005) and here I am today. What else do you do besides repairing computers? Just about anything, I set up networks wired and wireless and teach you how to use your PC, whatever you want to learn about them, software or hardware to get the most out of using your computer. Do you repair anything else other than PCs? Yes, a couple of years ago I started becoming interested in Apple macs, I also repair and to a certain extent upgrade them. Most computer technician's are scared stiff of them, but they are in some ways easier to work on than a PC, for example, you don't even need a screwdriver to open up a G4. What about other types of machines, PDA's and Laptops, do you repair them? Yes, I've just started repairing laptops not long ago, I do screen replacements, keyboard replacements, anything I can get hold of really. I can also upgrade laptops with more memory better processors, bigger and faster hard drives and DVD writers. As for PDAs (personal digital assistant) I've replaced screen digitisers on them but not much really goes wrong with them. Where do you work? I work from home mostly, and go out to peoples homes and businesses, most jobs I can do at the clients location, but with some longer jobs I take the computer home. |
